Mersault reports his mothers remnant in a very straightforward way; he doesnt picturem to have any sort of self-reproach or grief for his mother. He is emotionally indifferent to the event, and by and by on we see that stolidity is one of his strongest character traits throughout the book. Mersault goes to the funeral home in which his mother lived in to attend the funeral. His numbness is persistent and he is cold to any human interaction and detached. However, Mersault seems to be majusculely affected by anything to do with his handle senses. While visiting his mothers coff in, he drinks drinkable chocolate with the caretaker and smokes a cigarette, and seems to be at ease. He takes great mailing to sensory details, especially regarding the weather. While walking international during the funeral procession, Mersault complains well-nigh the scorching sunlight and how unbearable the heat is. The sun bothers him to a greater extent so than his mothers final stage. Through this chapter, we begin to put one over on the idea that Mersault thinks that life is meaningless and that there is no occasion for human existence. The next day, Mersault goes swimming and runs into a miss he knows named Marie. They spend the day to perplexher and go see a picture in the evening. Marie spends the night at Mersaults precisely is foregone when he wakes up. This sequence of events emphasizes Mersaults general indifference. He is supposed to be in mourning, but preferably he continues his steadfast routine and seems completely fine and unaffected.
